Our story from kebab restaurants to a worldwide operating gastronomy equipment manufacturer.
We (Ümit GmbH) are a family owned business from Germany (Braunschweig), more known under our brand name TANDIR and we are the manufacturer of the electric meat cutting machines for doner kebab, gyros, shawarma and shoama. Next to our headquarter in Germany (Braunschweig), we are also located in France (Paris) with a sales and service point and in Türkiye (Aydin) with our own production for metal and plastic parts. The machines get assebmled at our headquarter in Germany and get exported from there worldwide. In the following timeline you will get into our history from kebab restaurant owners to a manufacturer of electrical appliances which get used globally. Because of the fact that we started at the same point, where our costumers operate, we had the perfect test ground to develop, optimize and perfect our invention. For more than 25 years we are the market leader in the sale of electrically operated kebab knifes and our costumers appreciate our products.
1989
Germany, Braunschweig: Opening of TANDIR kebab restaurant, where we offered five different types of meat.
1993
Muzaffer Ümit and his family developed the first prototype of an electric doner kebab cutter for their own needs.
1994
The second prototype was developed and a patent application was filed. A small production was opened in Germany, Braunschweig, Südstr. 14-15.
1996
The patent was granted and some optical and ergonomic optimizations followed, that the production and first sales started in 1996.
1997
Reports and newspaper articles in Germany and Türkiye.
1997
Opening of sales and service point in Germany, Braunschweig, Südstr. 24.
1999
A gastronomy market was opened in Germany, Braunschweig as a first contact point for gastronomy equipment nearby for restaurant owners.
2003
Türkiye, Aydin: Opening of a production for the metal and plastic parts, which were previously purchased form external manufacturers.
2004
France, Paris: Opening of a sales and service point.
2004
The Tandir-Knife II was presented to the market and launched.
2009
Article in the local Newspaper.
2010
Germany, Braunschweig: Builded and moved into the new production building.
